Meet our Musicians:
Kika Wright, bassoon
Honduran-born bassoonist Kika Wright is an energetic and versatile performer, currently living in the Baltimore area. Most recently, Ms. Wright completed the Artist Diploma program at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada. She was the recipient of the Ihnatowycz Emerging Artist Scholarship.
Ms. Wright is currently the principal bassoon of Symphony Number One, a new music orchestra in Baltimore, Maryland. She has performed with Erie Chamber Orchestra, Toronto Sinfonietta, Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra, Pittsburgh Savoyards, Westmoreland Symphony, Altoona Symphony (contrabassoon), and OvreArts Sinfonia. She has had the honor of playing under the batons of Osmo Vänskä, Manfred Honeck, Jeffrey Kahane, Anne Manson, Leon Fleisher, Tito Muñoz and Johannes Debus.
Ms. Wright regularly attends summer music programs in the US and Canada, including the Hot Springs Music Festival, Banff Music Centre, Eastern Music Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival and School. At Aspen, she performed with the Chamber Orchestra, Festival Orchestra, and Aspen Opera Theater’s production of John Harbison’s The Great Gatsby.
Ms. Wright holds degrees from Penn State University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Former teachers include Frank Morelli, Nancy Goeres, Marc Vallon, and Daryl Durran.
