Austin Way, bassoon
Originally from Kansas City, Austin Way currently l ives in Pittsburgh where he frequently freelances a s both a bassoonist and a contrabassoonist with many of the local orchestras and chamber ensembles. He has toured as an orchestral musician, chamber music ian, and soloist for performances in New York, Chicago, Seattle and Los Angeles among others inclu ding a 2010 performance as both a bassoonist and a contrabassoonist on a recital at the International Double Reed Society conference in Norman, Oklahoma.
He has had the opportunity to collaborate with num erous composers in both Kansas City and Pittsburgh and has premiered and recorded their works in both cities, including a series of premiere recordings o f Leonardo Balada’s viola, cello, and piano concertos and Nancy Galbraith’s Strange Travels. He has spent the last three summers in Aspen where he has had th e opportunity to play both bassoon and contrabassoon in the faculty orchestras at the Aspe n Music Festival, where he plays in the section wit h Nancy Goeres, Per Hannevold, and numerous guest artists.
Austin received his bachelors from the University O f Missouri Kansas City Conservatory of Music where he studied with Marita Abner and his masters from C arnegie Mellon University where he studied with Nancy Goeres.
